6 Days Rwanda Gorillas & Golden monkeys
On this safari you will explore places which include Kigali with a tour to the memorial sites of the 1994 genocide, Dian Fossey’s grave site, Volcanoes National Park for Gorilla Tracking, and the Nyungwe Forest National Park for primates tracking especially the chimpanzees.
Day 1: Arrival in Rwanda Kigali.
At the Kigali International Airport upon your arrival, our tour guide will receive you and immediately transfer you to Volcanoes National Park a host to over a half of the remaining mountain gorillas. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Nest lodge, Lapalme Hotel or Muhabura Hotel (Full Board)
Day 2: Rwanda Gorilla Trekking adventure.
Depending on the level of fitness, you may be allocated gorilla families that do not involve much hiking. This will be done after a briefing from the park wardens on how you will behave on the gorilla adventure trek. The closest being about 2 hours or even a couple of minutes from the park boundary. After gorilla tracking, return to the lodge for lunch, later dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Hike the Karisoke for the Dian Fossey Grave
This morning you will have breakfast and then hike the Karisoke to Dian Fossey Grave Yard and Research Centre. This is where Dr. Fossey, a renowned primatologist spent close to two decades habituating, studying and conserving the endangered Mountain Gorillas in Rwanda. Overnight at the Mountain Gorillas Nest Lodge.
Day 4: Leave for Nyungwe Forest.
After a morning breakfast transfer to the Nyungwe Forest national park. This Forest contains a variety of habitats including montane forest, bamboo, grasslands, swamps and bogs, and is very mountainous too. It provides some of the best Golden Monkey viewing in Rwanda. Dinner and overnight at Gisakura Guest House (FB)
Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking
Start the morning with Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe forest searching for colonies of habituated Golden Monkeys. Other wildlife in the forest include: grey-cheeked Mangabeys, blue monkeys, Angolan Colobus, L’Hoest’s monkeys and owl-faced monkeys. Meals and overnight at Gisakura Guest House.
Day 6: Genocide Memorial Visit
Before you return home, in the morning you will visit the Genocide Memorial site in Kigali where remains of thousands of Tutsis and moderate Hutus are preserved.
